Why Do I Need A Professional Web Site and Email?

October 22, 2008 - Why do I need a professional web site and email? I'll answer that question with another question.

When you're interested in a particular service, what's the first thing you do? Do you get the yellow pages out and let your fingers to the walking? Do you ask a friend? Do you call 411?

I don't know about you, the first thing I reach for is the internet. I'll do a search for a local business and look for things like hours, where are they located, what services do they offer and I'll also base my decision on two other areas.

1.) if they don't have a web site, I can't get to know them and I won't buy from them if I don't have a preliminary trust. I'd rather buy from a person with a web site, than a person without a web site.

2.) Here's the big one...the quality of their site. If I visit a site that doesn't look professionally created, then I believe the people are not very successful and are not worth doing business with.

If you are a small business with the best product in the world, you need a professional web site design. With your professional design you'll look professional and seem much larger than you really are.

This continues onto the email address as well. If you have your own domain name, use it for your email. There's nothing profesisonal about @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, etc.

You could be a larger outfit with 100 employees, but if I see an @rogers.com email address, you will not be a company I call for your products or services.

People with @hotmail and gmail.com addresses use these easy to create email addresses when they don't want to give their real email address.

These email address present risky business because they are easy to create emails that are typically used by people not wanting to give up their true identity.

If you had your own @ domain address, then you have a better chance of being a viable source. Just make sure you put something up on your domain so people know you're serious about your business and how you portray yourself to your community.
